The Best Apps for Instagram in 2020

There are hundreds of apps available that claim to help you "take your instagram to the next level" or "create must-see content," and it can be hard to tell which one are worth the download, and which ones are just going to end up taking up storage space. Today, I'm sharing my tried-and-true favorite apps for photo and video editing, creating stunning instagram stories, and planning the perfect grid.

Photo Editing Apps

Lightroom

I switched from VSCO to Lightroom a few months ago and I’ve never looked back. By far my favorite photo editing software, Lightroom has changed the way I edit my photos. While I’ll admit it’s not super user-friendly and has a steep learning curve, it’s definitely worth the time to learn how to use it (VSCO may be better for beginners). After I got more familiar with all the different tools, I created a custom filter that’s unique to my brand. Now I just add that filter to every photo and make small adjustments, and it helps me create a truly cohesive feed.

A Color Story

While this app also offers an array of filters that can be used for editing, I’m particularly fond of the plethora of photo effects that they offer. With just a click you can add light leaks, flares, color fogs, and grain effects.

Facetune

We all use it, so I’m just going to admit it. BUT I don’t use it for the reasons you’re thinking. Sure, Facetune is great if you want to take three inches off your waist in just a few seconds, but it’s truly a great editing tool for businesses too. I use the details brush to bring out the details in specific areas of my photos (it’s great for eyes!), the whiten brush to whiten things like teeth and latte foam, and the patch tool to remove unwanted items from my photo.

TouchRetouch

TouchRetouch is another great tool for removing unwanted items from your photos. Within seconds, you can easily remove cracks in sidewalks, telephone wires in the sky, and other bothersome objects that don’t belong in your photo.

Instagram Planning Platforms

Planoly

I know, I know. I talk about Planoly a lot. But I promise I don’t get paid to do it, and I’m not about to offer you a code! I truly just love this program. I believe every business should use some sort of content planning software, and there are a plethora of great options out there. But I’ve tried a lot of different apps, and I love Planoly for it’s beautiful interface, desktop functionality, and easy-to-use hashtag feature (among many other reasons).

Preview

If you’re not partial to Planoly, Preview is another great option. I’ve used preview for years on my personal account, and it has similar drag-and-drop functionality that helps you plan the perfect Instagram grid.

Instagram Story Apps

Storyluxe

Instagram stories are viewed by more than 500 million users per day, so it’s safe to say that they’re another great way to connect with your audience. There are a myriad of great apps for Instagram story templates, but I’m particularly partial to Storyluxe. The app offers more than 500 photo and video templates to help you visually enhance your Instagram stories. (This is the app that your favorite influencer uses to create those vintage film frames.)

Unfold

If you’re looking for something a little more minimalistic, Unfold is a great option. They offer a variety of clean, classic templates to create beautiful stories. Plus, you can take it a step further by adding text with one of their custom font options.

Video Editing Apps

Tezza

Created by mega-influencer Tezza, the Tezza app offers editing tools for both photos and videos. I’ve always struggled to find a video editor that offers presets and filters that make my videos just as pretty as my photos, and this app has been my saving grace. Used by other influencers such as Marianna Hewitt (founder of Summer Fridays), the app is perfect for creating aesthetically pleasing video clips.

Filmm

Specially made for creators, the Filmm app was created by Zoe Sugg, a British Youtuber, and Elsie Larson and Emma Chapman, founders of A Beautiful Mess and A Color Story. The app offers stunning filters, effects and distortions that create the illusion that your video was shot on a vintage film camera.

Graphic Design Apps

Canva

Don’t have the chops to create promotional graphics and flyers in professional programs like Photoshop? Not to worry! Canva is a great option for business owners who need to create stunning visuals for their social media channels Easy-to-use and great for beginners, Canva may be the solution to all your graphic design needs!

Adobe Spark Post

Another great app for creating eye-catching visuals, Adobe Spark Post offers professionally designed templates for creators. With just a few taps, you can easily customize each template and even add simple video animations. Adobe Spark also offers users the option to upgrade to a paid subscription to create branded graphics that include your logo and brand colors.
